The protein market is, well, seeing a ton of gains lately. It’s already hit $4 billion, and that’s prompted a wave of startups to muscle into the industry. In fact, Peter Rahal, who founded Rxbar and sold it to Kellogg in 2017 for $600 million, has made his return with the launch of his new David protein bars.
“We’re competing [against] the banana,” Rahal told Ashwin Rodrigues, a returning Weekend contributor. “The 50-year-old woman who had a coffee and a banana at breakfast—we’re a way better substitute. I want to take that share, because it would provide so much value to her.”
